Play: Five Minute Friday

I can't believe my last post was June 3. And yet, I can. The end of the school year was way more "full" than I had imagined.
So, I'm chiming in tonight for the Five Minute Friday linkup. In just two weeks I'll be live with the real Five Minute Friday people in Missouri! Oh wow!

Play.

"Mom, may I please play your piano?"
The sparkling brown eyes I've loved to gaze into for almost ten years look up with anticipation.
"Yes."
Those eyes remind me of another pair of brown eyes that also came alive when the small hands reached out for the black and white keys.
The sounds that resulted would either cause pleasure or dismay to the two young ears on either side of those brown eyes.
Hours spent alone and delighted, just making music on the piano.
Listening and correcting, until finally the music that was composed by others was picked out, note by note, and displayed audibly as a triumphant puzzle solved!!

To have my daughter pick up this gift is such a joy for me! I love to hear her play. She is reading music, playing songs I once played, and picking out other songs by ear.
Someday I hope we will play together. For now, I just savor her love for music, which is my love language.

Stop.

I apologize for not returning comments last time. It was the weekend before school ended and life was crazy!

    1. Tara,
I have missed you too! I feel like I've caught up on Twitter readings and read other posts and then realize I haven't been a voice in the conversation.
      Glad to be back!
      Love,
      Tammy

  2. Hello Tammy. I also play the piano, but am fairly rusty since I haven't owned a piano since I've been married (going on 28 years!). I love music as well, and enjoy singing on our worship team at church. It is precious to be able to pass on some of our passions and share them with our children. http://simplyflourishinghome.com/

    1. Ann,
delighted to have you here! I'm so glad you regularly sing on worship team. I used to sing often, but now I almost only play keys. We have quite a few talented singers that come through, but not as many musicians. :)
      Love,
      Tammy

  3. Love this, Tammy, and so glad to see you again!

You brought back a memory...when I was in college, studying engineering, I'd take every opportunity to sneak off to the music building. There were piano rooms in the basement, and while these were supposed to be kept locked, I had a special skill set...well, more on that another time.

I could while away an hour or so with my self-taught musical skills. It was fun, and may have saved my sanity.

    1. Andrew,
I'd have loved to listen to your playing. Our piano rooms/practice rooms were never locked though they had doors. As long as the building was open, you could use them. (But they were actually full most of the time!)
Most of the dormitories had an out-of-tune option as well. :p

It's so soothing to just go and play in a quiet room!

      Blessed for your presence here.
      Love,
      Tammy

What a lovely thing, to share music with children. Definitely not a gift that I possess. I hope you two spend many happy hours together! - Marie (mlsgregg.com)
