Find: Five Minute Friday

Another week, another chance to write on a one-word prompt for only five minutes. We set timers, type quickly, and let it flow without criticism. Then, we link-up our posts so we can read others' posts and they read ours and we have a community that grows from one word each week.
Five Minute Friday.

Go!

"Find"
For those of us that have the time, we have a "twitter party" leading up to the word prompt on Thursday night. Basically you have #fmfparty searched at the top, and everyone who posts something puts that phrase or "hashtag" at the end so we see what we're all typing.

In the midst of the party last night, I had an interruption. A knock at our door.
That is why I'm not posting this until this morning.
(What has become beautiful about the Five Minute Friday linkup? I have connected with friends who may post the night of the prompt or not until much later the next day. We look for each others' posts, even if it's not in our immediate line of posting. I cannot tell you how it builds me up to have somebody find my post and comment, though I am 20 posts down from them. We long to be sought after, and there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. I will take a risk to list some of my weekly friends that always seem to find me and comment...Jeanne, Andrew, Ruthie, Susan, Tara, Denise, Tondra)

In a week, I'm hosting a ladies' night at my home, but I had a guest arrive a week early. She's an acquaintance, but she's actively seeking truth right now.
She just checked out multiple books from the library on religion, but the conversation we had last night led me to ask if she'd be interested in driving up to our church for the Thursday night service.

She said yes! I asked dear Tara and Kate (and hopefully others prayed too) to pray intercession. There is a darkness that plagues her and she often has bad dreams. Our conversations last night in the car were the most revealing, though the drive was short. I was able to listen and hear, and then to speak.

This month of August, I've been leading some friends through the 31 chapters of Proverbs, one at a time. Yesterday the verse 20:12 caught me. "Ears that hear and eyes that see—the Lord has made them both." Jesus often said, "He who has eyes to see, let Him see." "He who has ears to hear, let Him hear."

Today I embraced Proverbs 21:21. "Whoever pursues righteousness and unfailing love will find life, righteousness, and honor."

What we seek is what we will find. I'm sure many of my friends this week quoted Jeremiah 29 about "When you seek me you will find me when you search for me with all your heart."

I challenge us to be listening and looking, for those opportunities that the Holy Spirit gives us, because if we seek them, I believe we will find them. And that emptiness we have when we're not active will disappear because like 12 year old Jesus, we will "be about our Father's business."

I continue to pray for this friend, that she will find Jesus. And if you haven't found Him, keep looking. He is here and He is real.

Speaking of find, I cannot "find" your post if I don't already know your website...so can you tell me your link-up number or just include a link to your post in your comment? I love to reciprocate the joy of reading and posting!!

Sincerely,
Tammy

*and I'm sorry to confess I took a little more than 5 minutes today...* :)

  1. Tammy, I will pray for your friend. Kate's site is down but I think I'm #32. I found you because I know your website and had to jump over and visit. It just dawned on me that you are doing what I plan to do for WRITE 31...I'm going to do 31 days in Proverbs. Is that okay? Should I change? Oh yikes!!! I didn't cheat last night, promise. xo

    1. Susan,
that's an EXCELLENT idea for your "write 31"! Don't change it for a second. I can tell you that each Proverb has had something different, as I'm trying to highlight and share one verse each day with my group. Sometimes there is more instruction than comfort.
      I love you!

  3. Thanks for the shout out, friend! I recognize most of the girls on that list as my buddies too! God is using you in a mighty way, Tammy! You are so free with your love and so open to His leading and I love that about you. I will be praying for your friend as well. Thank you for the Scriptures shared here today and your giving heart as well! Love you! :)

    1. Awww,
thanks Ruthie! :) I'm glad you're coming out of your cocoon, though that pain is real. (website struggles) You are going to be a soaring butterfly before you even see it. :)
      I love you!

  4. Tammy, I love finding you each week. Your words encourage and make me smile. :) What a blessing you must have been to that lady last night. And the fact that you followed the Spirit's prompting? You just never know the fruit that will come of one evening's obedience. Thanks for the reminder to stay open to His promptings. Sometimes He wants us to help in finding the lost and sharing Him with them. Have a great weekend, my friend!

    1. Jeanne,
thank you. I hope you have a great weekend too! She works with my husband, so it's been interesting as he doesn't want to necessarily reach out, but knows she's seeking. That awkward hurdle of not reaching out to opposite gender single people when you're married. :)
      You bless me!
      Love,
      Tammy

  5. Your friend is in my prayers, Tammy.

I think you are both good and brave, standing up to the darkness to fight for this lady; I've seen, and know the darkness all too well. I know the dreams.

It takes a big heart of faith to stand against it, and you,my friend - you have that!

    1. Andrew,
thank you. We are fellow soldiers, battling an unseen enemy. :) As I was standing in the service, I dreamt of her being baptized and getting to stand with her in that. (She was baptized at age 16 and is now in her mid-twenties)
Thank you for praying for her. I know God has big plans for her, or our enemy would not be working so hard to frighten her.

    1. Marcy,
oh my sweet friend, thank you. The last time I was placed near a friend who needed a friend was in college. 2003-2004. I'm so thankful for God's maturing in me so that I know not to push people and to let Him lead. I'm still often the impulsive "Peter" type, and have to really use that Holy Spirit to rein it in.
Thank you for your prayers. That is where the battle will be won!
      Love,
      Tammy

This is a great reminder that it's so important to be looking for the opportunities God gives. (Sorry if I'm posting twice- I tried a minute ago and I don't think it worked but I'm not sure.)

    1. Carly,
oh sweet friend, thanks for coming over! And thank you especially for praying for her. It's been a while since I've been in a position of this kind, I'd almost forgotten the gamut of emotion and discipline of prayer necessary. Thank you!!
      This one worked.
The trick with blogger is you type a character, sign in, click publish, and it signs you in. THEN you type an actual response. I learned the hard way, sadly. And I didn't learn right away. Sadder still.

  9. Wow Tammy, thank you for mentioning me... I was pleasantly surprised to see my name here and became even more astonished as I kept reading. Three years ago I wrote a book called "Having Eyes That See", and reading your Scripture reference here reminded me that I have yet to fulfill my promise to publish that book! Not really sure what I'm waiting for, but this post had my name... the title of my book... and other encouragement that was certainly meant for me to "FIND". Thank you! (#49)

but it's true! :) You faithfully visit me, even if I'm not in the lineup anywhere close. I'm so glad the giver of life is speaking to you. And so honored to be a step in that message! :D I can't wait for your book to be released.
