Dwell: Five Minute Friday

Another week, another chance to write on a one-word prompt for only five minutes. We set timers, type quickly, and let it flow without criticism. Then, we link-up our posts so we can read others' posts and they read ours and we have a community that grows from one word each week.
Five Minute Friday.

Go!

The prompt this week is Dwell.

Last weak, the prompt was Weary. They're tied together for me. Where am I choosing to dwell? If I'm tired or weary, am I dwelling there? Or am I choosing to stop there for the moment and then move on?

The definition of dwell or dwelling is this: live in or at a specified place; think, speak, or write at length about (a particular subject, especially one that is a source of unhappiness, anxiety, or dissatisfaction.)

Well. There you have it. "Especially one that is a source of unhappiness, anxiety, or dissatisfaction."
Don't we often dwell there? Our imperfections, failures, or the mistakes of others and how we are affected by them?
I don't want to live there. I don't want those to be the walls of my home.
I've been singing a song at church, but it's been in my heart and mind all through the week for the last month as well.

"You unravel me with a melody, you surround me with a song
of deliverance from my enemies, until all my fear is gone.
I'm no longer a slave to fear, I am a child of God.
I'm no longer a slave to fear, I am a child of God.
From my mother's womb, you have chosen me. Love has called my name.
I've been born again into your family Your blood flows through my veins.

Bridge: You split the sea, so I could walk right through it
My fears were drowned in perfect love
You rescued me, so I could stand and sing
I am a child of God"

A slave is imprisoned. Not allowed to leave. We are not slaves. We should not dwell in fear, but in the House of the Lord.
Psalm 23:5-6
"Y
ou prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever."

I grew up singing the "surely goodness and mercy" song. I need to revisit where I am going to dwell. I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Every day I must choose where I want to be, where I want to stay, where I want to dwell. I have a choice, but I have to choose.

Time's up! :)

    2. Such an important reminder that dwelling on those things that are not of God only lead us to a continued cycle of dissatisfaction and fear and insecurity. We must constantly choose to dwell in the joy and peace and hope only God can fully provide. Thanks, Tammy

  2. You know, weary and dwell are linked together, aren't they? I don't want to dwell in those weary places at all. That song is such a great song, Yes, may we dwell I'm the house of the Lord. I'm parked in the #13 spot this week.

  3. That is one of my favourite songs too- and I love the reminder that we don't have to dwell in fear but we can choose to turn or focus to God and that we can dwell in his house forever. (FMF #21)

  4. Loved your post, Tammy. We do get to choose where we dwell. I've definitely been guilty of dwelling in those places of fear, imperfections, failures, and mistakes. We are not slaves to those things in our pasts. We are free, children of God, invited to dwell closely with Him. Forever! I love your thoughts here today, my friend.

    1. Thanks Jeanne.
      I loved yours as well. I know from what wonderful writing you have shared that we are kindred in those dwellings and we would rather tear down those little mud huts and bypass them for God's mansion, amen?!
      :) Thanks for your sweet words!
      Love,
      Tammy

    I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get here. The past few days have been - are - hell. But I'm still alive.
