Dance: Five Minute Friday

Another week, another chance to write on a one-word prompt for only five minutes. We set timers, type quickly, and let it flow without criticism. Then, we link-up our posts so we can read others' posts and they read ours and we have a community that grows from one word each week.
Five Minute Friday.

Go!

Dance! There are so many movies, so many songs! No matter who you are, the word Dance is not a static word. It moves you. If you grew up in my Mom's church, dancing was not a celebration of God. If you read the account of David dancing before the Lord, unashamed, you see that He was concerned about God before others.

There are two focuses on dance. Ourselves, or the One who dances over us. I love to watch talented dancers perform their skill with grace and athletic gifting! Though I love dancing, I'm not as graceful or talented as many I have seen. Still, when I offer my dance to God in worship, He delights in it. Why? Because it's a gift. From me. To Him.

So, I've got two different songs/videos for you tonight. If you need a quiet moment to soak in His amazing love for you, then watch this one. The first line is "You dance over me while I am unaware. You sing all around and I never hear a sound."

If you've been burdened and you need to be lifted up and break free and dance? Then this is the one for you! (Shackles by Mary Mary)

And finally, if you can handle a little country music, here's LeAnn Womack. "I hope you dance."

You see, God truly rejoices over us with singing.
The Lord your God is with you,
    the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.(Zephaniah 3:17)

"They will come home and sing songs of joy on the heights of Jerusalem.
They will be radiant because of the Lord’s good gifts—
the abundant crops of grain, new wine, and olive oil,
and the healthy flocks and herds.
Their life will be like a watered garden,
and all their sorrows will be gone.
13 The young women will dance for joy,
and the men—old and young—will join in the celebration.
I will turn their mourning into joy.
I will comfort them and exchange their sorrow for rejoicing.
14 The priests will enjoy abundance,
and my people will feast on my good gifts.
I, the Lord, have spoken!” (Jeremiah 31:12-14 NLT)

Heaven is just around the corner. Don't keep it to yourself! :)

Love,

Tammy

  1. Oh, I LOVE these songs! Lee Ann's "I Hope You Dance" was something of an anthem for me during a very hard part of life.

May I also suggest David Lee Roth (as the Van Halen front man) doing "Jump!"?

    And ELO's "Calling America".

Great post, Tammy, you gave me quite a smile!

    1. Susan,
I've missed everybody! I did not have time to #read31days let alone #write31days, but it's so nice to have you back. I'll be gone this weekend but will try to catch up. :) Teaching gives me a lot less time for reading than I used to have!
      Love,

  4. Love these songs. "I Hope You Dance" is one of my faves too. I'm not a graceful dancer either. Oh and how do I love that you included that David danced....because he did indeed. I'm parked in the #6 spot this week.

    1. Tara,
I knew you'd love it. As soon as you put up John Michael, I knew. ;)
I wrote a song once, it was called "Free to Dance". It began with David. Maybe I'll record it sometime.
      Love,
      Tammy

  5. I used "I Hope You Dance" too! :) That is a great song and has been a reminder to me in so many different areas of my life at different times. Another fun song is "Some Days You Gotta Dance" by Dixie Chicks. Happy Friday!

    1. Meghan,
thanks so much for the encouragement! I'm happy that more than one person shared that song. There's so much hope and life in it. Not always true on the radio today. (I'm getting drunk on a plane???)
Thank you again for your encouragement!!

    1. Rachel,
please don't underestimate the need for every single one of our posts! For some person out there, your post is EXACTLY what God wanted them to see today. You can make an eternal difference on just one night, because you danced. You didn't sit it out. :)
I just read your post and it caused me joy. Especially the part about it tracking your right arm. For some reason, I'm erupting in fits of laughter thinking of singing "Father Abraham".
Can you imagine Abraham trying to play "just dance"??!! Or even Abraham Lincoln?
You brought me joy, Rachel. That is so praiseworthy!
      Love,
      Tammy

  8. Such a beautiful post, Tammy. I've never seen the video for Leann Womack's song before. Wow, does it add a lot of meaning to the song! And the first song? I've loved that one since the first time I heard it. I love the picture of God's presence always with us, even when we don't feel HIm. He dances over us, and rejoices over us with singing.
So happy to be back here. :)

I loved your post as well. (But you already knew that).
It's great to have you back! :) Yes, let's just delight in His delight over us! (no more trying to take the lead)
      Love,
      Tammy
